if x and y vary inversely and y=45. find x when constant of variation=9

Two quantities x and y are said to vary in inverse proportion if 

xy = k  -----------( 1 )

where k is a constant.

according to our problem

y = 45 ,

k = 9 .

put these values in ( 1 ),

xy = k

x × 45 = 9

x = 9 / 45

x = 1/5

if y = 45 then x = 1/5
