x = a \cos\theta \\  \frac{x}{a }  =  \cos \theta \\  \\ similarly \\  \frac{y}{b }  =  \sin\theta \\  \\   { (\frac{x}{a}) }^{2}    + { (\frac{y}{b}) }^{2}  =   { \cos}^{2} theta +   { \sin }^{2} theta \\  = 1
