Solution :
Compare x + ky - 4 = 0
and
2x + 4y - 12 = 0 with
a1x + b1y + c1 = 0
and
a2x + b2y + c2 = 0 , we get
a1 = 1 , b1 = k , c1 = -4 ,
a2 = 2 , b2 = 4 , c2 = -12,
a1/a2 = b1/b2 [ parallel lines ]
=> 1/2 = k/4
=> 4/2 = k
=> 2 = k
Therefore ,
k = 2
