p(x)= 2x³+11x²+bx-6

putting the value of g(x) in p(x)

p(1) = 2 ( 1 )³+ 11 ( 1 ) ² + b ( 1 ) - 6 =  0  (because it is given that x-1 is a factor of p(x) )

 

 =  2 + 11 + b +(-6)=0

 =7 + b = 0

 = b =  - 7
