If (x+p) (x+q) = x^2+5x-300, find the value of p^2+q^2

Answer:

(x+p)(x+q) = x^2+5x-300

+(p+q)x+pq = +5x-300

comparing we get,

(p-q) = 5 (as pq is in negative)

pq = -300

+ = (p-q)² +2pq

+ = (5)²-600

+ = 25-600 = -575 (Ans)
