From the question, we get the following equations

x+y=3  (i)

x-y=1

by adding the equations,

x+y+x-y=3+1

2x=4

x=2

By putting the value of x in equation (i), we get

2+y=3

y=1

⇒(x,y)=(2,1)

Answer:

Add two equations

(x+y)+(x-y)=3+1

x+x+y-y=4

2x+0=4

2x=4

x=4/2

x=2

Replace x with 2 on any of two equations

2+y=3

y=3–2

y=1

Or

2-y=1

-y=1–2

-1y=-1

y=-1/-1

y=1

Finally substitute value of x and y in the required

x/y=2/1=2
