x + y = 10

y - x = 8

Adding both the equation we get,

x + y + y - x = 10 + 8

⇒ 2y = 18

⇒ y = 18/2 = 9

Substituting this in any of the equations we get,

⇒ y - x = 8

⇒ 9 - x = 8

⇒ x = 9 - 8 = 1

Hence value of x is 1 and y is 8.

Hence xy will be 9 × 1 = 9

Hence the required answer is 9.

Hope it helped !!
