Answer

Given:

  • x + y = 13
  • xy = 27

To Find:

  • Value of x
  • Value of 3 + y

Solution:

⇒ xy = 27 ------(1)

⇒ x + y = 12

⇒ y = 12 - x -----(2)

Put value of y from (2) in (1),

⇒ x*(12-x) = 27

⇒ 12x - x² = 27

⇒ x² - 12x + 27 = 0

⇒ x² - 3x - 9x + 27 = 0

⇒ x(x - 3) - 9(x - 3) = 0

⇒ (x - 3)(x - 9) = 0

⇒ x = 9 & x = 3

So,

⇒ y = 12 - x

⇒ y = 12 - 3 OR y = 12 - 9

⇒ y = 9 & y = 3

Hence,

⇒ 3 + y = 3 + 9 OR 3 + y = 3 + 3

⇒ 3 + y = 12(x=9) or 6(x=3)
