If x-y=13 and xy=30 then what is x+y

As such there is no right method for it but
by trial and error it is easy to know
x=15 and y=2
And x+y=17...

x-y=13
xy=30

we have to find two values from which if subtract them we will get 13 and if we multiply them we will get 30.

the numbers are= 15 and 2
15-2=13
15×2=30
x=15
y=2
So,
x+y=15+2
x+y=17
