x  +  y  = 14  -------- equation 1

2x  - y = 16  --------- equation 2

-------------------------

3x - 0 = 30

3x = 30

x = 10

put this value to equation 1 or equation 2 to find y

x + y = 14

10  + y = 14

y = 14 - 10

y = 4

Answer:

In the first equation,

x+y=14\\=>x=14-y .........(A)

In the second equation,

2x-y=16\\=>2(14-y)-y=16  (according to equation A)

28-2y-y=16\\=>28-3y=16\\=>-3y=16-28\\=>-3y=-12\\=>3y=12\\=>y=\frac{12}{3}=4

Therefore y = 4. Now substituting y value in (A),

x=14-4\\=>x=10

Therefore, x = 10.
