Here's ur answer..

Step-by-step explanation:

x+y=4 -{1} , xy=2

so,

x=2/y

putting it in equation 1 ,we get;

2/y+y=4

taking Lcm

y^ 2 +2y =4

y^2+2y-4=0

y^2+4y-2y-4=0

y^2-2y+4y-4=0

y(y-2)+4(y-1)=0

(y-1)(y-2)(y+4)=0

y=1,y=2,y=4

•<1>

If y=1

x=2, x2+y2=4+1=5

•<2>

if y=2

x=1, x2+y2=1+4=5

•<3>

if y=4

x=1/2 x2+y2=1/4+16=65/4

So,

The possible answers for x2+y2 are;

5 and 65/4
