Given :

x+y = 47

xy = 437

To find :

value of (x-y)

Solution :

We know that,

(x-y)² = (x+y)² - 4xy

Now, put the given values in above identity.

(x-y)² = (47)² - 4(437)

(x-y)² = 2209 - 1748

(x-y)² = 461

(x-y) = ±√461

(x-y) = ±21.5 ( approx ).

Hence, (x-y) = ±21.5 ( required answer )
