xy =10 --------------------------( 2 )

from eqn ( 1 ) ,

x+y = 5

=> x = 5 -y

putting the value of x in eqn ( 1 )

( 5-y ) y = 10

=> 5y - y^2 =10

=> y^2 -5y + 10 = 0

=> y = 10/2 =5 or y = 0/2 = 0

putting y=0 in eqn 1 , x= 5

So ,the value of x^2 +y^2 = 5^2 +5^2

= > 25+25 = 50
