Answer:

Using Identity : (a - b)² = a² + b² - 2ab

(x - y)² = x² + y² - 2xy

⇒ 7² = x² + y² - 2(2)

⇒ 49 = x² + y² - 4

⇒ x² + y² = 49 + 4

⇒ x² + y² = 53

Question:

If (x-y) = 7

And x y = 2.

then x² + y² = ?

Solution:

x² + y² = (x-y)² + 2 x y

          = 7² + 2·2 = 49 + 4 = 53.
