If x+y=8 and xy=15/4, find the value of x-y

Hi there!

Given,

x + y = 8 ---(i) n' x/y = 15/4. ---(ii)

On squaring Eqn. (i)

(x + y)² = 64

We know that,

(x - y)² = (x + y)² - 4xy

(x - y)² = 64 - 4 × 15/4

(x - y)² = 64 - 15

(x - y)² = 49

x - y = ±√ 49

x - y = ± 7

Hence,
Value of [ x - y ] = ± 7
