Solution:
Given: x+y=5, xy=6
To find: values of x and y,.
x+y=5...(i)
As we know (a+b)²=a²+2ab+b²
same trick here,
(x+y)²=x²+2xy+y²
(5)²=x²+y²+2(6)
25=12+x²+y²
x²+y²=13..(ii)
As, we know (a-b)²=a²-2ab+b²
(x-y)²=x²-2xy+y²
(x-y)²=x²+y²-2xy
(x-y)²=13-2(6)
(x-y)²=13-12
(x-y)²=1
x-y=√1
x-y=1..(iii)
(i)+(iii)=> (x+y)+(x-y)=5+1
2x+y-y=6
2x=6
∴x=3
(ii)=> x-y=1
3-y=1
-y=1-3
-y=-2
∴y=2
Hope it Helps
