if X + Y equal to 9 and x y equals to 16 find the value of (x^2 + y^2)​

Given:

x+y=9 and xy=16 => (x + y)^2 = 9^2 = 81 and 2xy=2(16)=32

To find: x^2 + y^2

Now,

x^2 + y^2

Adding and subtracting 2xy

= x^2 + y^2 +2xy -2xy. (Using (a+b)^2)

=(x + y)^2 - 2xy

=(9)^2 -2(16)

=81-32=49

Your answer is 49.
