if X + Y is equal to 18 and x minus Y is equal to 2 find the value of x and y

X + Y = 18 .......(1)
X - Y = 2 ..........(2)
Solve by elimination
X + Y = 18
X - Y = 2
2X = 20
X = 10 put in (1)
Y = 18 - 10 = 8

x+y = 18 ------- (i)
x-y = 2 ---------(ii)

adding (i) and (ii) , we get

2x = 20

x = 10 ,

now , putting x= 10 in (ii)

x-y = 2

10-y = 2

y = 8
