Given, X+Y = 7/2-------------(i)

and XY = 5/2 .

we have, (X+Y)² = + Y² + 2XY

=> (7/2)² = ++5

=> + = 49/4 - 5 = 29/4

And, (X-Y )² = +-2XY

=> (X-Y)² = 29/4 - 5

=> X-Y = (9/4)

=> X-Y = 3/2 or -3/2 -------------(ii)

Again, (X+Y)(X-Y) = -Y²

=> 7/2 × 3/2 = -Y² or 7/2 × -3/2 = -Y²

=> -Y² = 21/4 or -Y² = -21/4 .

Hope it's helpful to you .
