(a)24 is the correct answer as 24-21=3 and 24+21=45

Option ( b ) is correct.

Explanation :

It is given that ,

x - z = 3 ----( 1 )

x + z = 45 ---( 2 )

Add equations ( 1 ) & (2 ) , we

get

2x = 48

=> x = 48/2 = 24

Substitute x = 24 in equation

( 2 ) , we get

x + z = 45

=> 24 + z = 45

=> z = 45 - 24 = 21

Therefore ,

x = 24 , z = 21

********************************

By Empharical Formula :

If mode = z , median = M ,

Mean = x then

z = 3M - 2x

Or

M = ( z + 2x )/3

*********************************

M = ( 21 + 2 × 24 )/3

=> M = ( 42 + 24 )/3

=> M = 66/3

=> M = 22
