Then,

p^2 - 8p + 12 = 0

p^2 - 2p - 6p + 12 = 0

p ( p - 2 ) - 6 ( p - 2 ) = 0

( p - 6 ) ( p - 2 ) = 0

p = 6 , 2

now,

2^x1 = 6 and 2^x2 = 2

2^x1 + 2^x2 = 6 + 2

x1 + x2 = 8
