Answer:

Given equation,

x² + kx + 16 = 0

According to,

D = B² - 4AC

k² - 4 × 1 × 16

k² = 64

If D > 0 , it will have real roots.

D > 0 => K² - 64 > 0

k² > 64

k > +8 or -8 !!

Solution.......

x2 + kx + 16 = 0

D is equal to or greater than 0

b2 - 4ac is equal to or greater than 0

k2 - 64 = > 0

k2 = > 64

k = > 8

k = 8

Answer:

given equation has imaginary roots

We can do it in two diff. ways

method --1

  1. sum of the roots = -b/a
  • p+p = -k
  • 2p = -k
  • p= -k/2
  • product of roots = c/a
  • p^2 = -16
  • p= 4i

then

4i = k/2

then k= +- 8i
