Because both metal and non-metal have different properties :-
1 metals are ductile whereas non-metal are not ductile.
1.metals are malleable whereas non-metal are not malleable.
metal are strong where non-metal are brittle.

2. metals are good conductor of elecricity and heat.
3 Usually metal are in solid state.
Non-metals.
1. They are poor conductor of heat and electricity.
