Answer:

  • Embryo development is the term used to describe the many stages of embryo development.
  • Animals and plants develop differently during the embryonic stage.
  • Even in animals, there are various stages of embryonic development that each species goes through.
  • The zygote develops following fertilization. The zygote divides mitotically to produce stages with 2, 4, 8, or 16 cells. Blastomeres are the name for these cells.
  • Morula: An embryo with eight to sixteen blastomeres.
  • The morula converts to a blastocyst and continues to divide mitotically. The trophoblast, or outer layer of the blastocyst, attaches to the endometrium, or outer layer of the uterine wall. The implantation begins the first week and is finished the second week.
  • The placenta aids in the removal of waste and carbon dioxide produced by the embryo as well as nutrition and oxygen for the embryo. In order to maintain pregnancy, it also functions as an endocrine gland, secreting hormones including hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin), estrogen, progestogens, etc.
  • In the third week, when gestation begins, the inner cell or embryo begins to differentiate into the three germinal layers known as the ectoderm, endoderm, and mesoderm. These cells change and become differentiated into all the tissues and organs, including the digestive system, muscle, bone, and blood.
