If you wish to know in how many ways can this task be performed-

If the apples are not identical,

3c2 (ways to select 2 apples out of 3)× 2+3-1 c 3-1 (their distribution among 3 people) which is equal to

3 × 6 = 18.

If the apples are identical,

there's no need to select 2 apples out of the 3 present. So the distribution is equal to 2+3-1 c 3-1 = 6.
