If you push a heavy box which is in rest you must exert some force to start its motion how ever once the box is sliding you apply lesser force to maintain why

When we push an object, we need to apply more force as there is more friction present between the ground and the object. Otherwise, when we slide, the friction is reduced be the wheels. Therefore, we need to apply less amount of force while sliding.
