let the number be "x"

now,according to question ,

1/ 4 ( x - 1 / 8 )= 1 / 16

( 8x - 1 ) / 8 = 4 / 16

8x - 1 = 8 / 4

8x - 1 = 2

8x = 2 + 1

8x = 3

x = 3 / 8

Let the number be x,

(x -  \frac{1}{8}) \times  \frac{1}{4} =  \frac{1}{6} \\  \\  =  > 8x -  \frac{1}{8}  =  \frac{4}{16}     \\  \\  =  >  \frac{(8x - 1)}{8}  =  \frac{1}{4}  \\  \\  =  >  8x - 1 = 2 \\  \\  =  > 8x = 2 + 1 \\  \\  =  > 8x = 3 \\  \\  =  > x =  \frac{3}{8}

Hence the Number required is 3/8
