Answer:

The number is 20

Step-by-step explanation:

Take the number as x

write out the equation:

(x - 2) \div 3 = 6

Multiply both sides by 3 or take 3 to the RHS

(x - 2) \div 3 \times 3 = 6 \times 3

move the 2(constant) to the RHS

x = 18  + 2

add the numbers and there you have the answer

Given :  result of subtracting 2 from a number is divided by 3 , we get 6

To Find : Number

Solution:

Let say Number is N

result of subtracting 2 from a number  = N - 2

divided by 3 = ( N - 2) /3

Equate with 6

( N - 2) /3 = 6

=> N - 2 = 18

=> N = 20

Hence number is 20

20 - 2 = 18

18/3 = 6
