If you take a number, times by 8 then add 6. You get the same as if you took the number, times by 3 then subtract 7. What is the number?

Answer:

let the number be x

8x + 6 = 3x - 7 \\ 8x - 3x =  - 7 - 6 \\ 5x =  - 13  \\ x =  \frac{ - 13}{5}

To Find : Number

Solution:

Let say Number = N

number times by 8 then add  6

=  8N+6

number times by 3 then subtract 7

= 3N - 7

8N+ 6  = 3N - 7

=> 5N = - 13

=> N = -13/5

=> N = -2.6

Number is  -2.6
