In the poem, “The Night of the Scorpion”, the poet Nissim Ezekiel describes the wound of his mother, stung by a scorpion.
The villagers went in search of the scorpion believing that the movements of the scorpion would affect her much. They had other superstitious beliefs too. Instead of giving treatment for the mother, they believed and worked on superstitions.
If I were the son of that mother, I would have got anger. She was irritated by the superstitious beliefs and the treatments. They simply talked about the sins of the past and to balance the sins of future. This would have triggered me.
