(x + 2y = 3) \:  \:  \:  \times 7\\ 7x + 14y = 21 \:  \:... (1) \\ 7x - 4y = 3 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: ...(2) \\  -  -  -  -  -  -  - subtracting \\ 0x + 18y = 18 \\  \\ therefore \\ y = 1 \\ x = 1
