KOH solution was placed in a test tube to absorb CO2
Explanation:
An experiment was conducted to demonstrate that germinating seeds respired and produced carbon dioxide. So, they took a test tube containing KOH solution and hung it by a thread inside a conical flask. They put some germinating seeds inside the air-tight conical flask, which was fitted with a small glass tube. The other end of the tube was immersed in water and level noted.
After sometime, it was noted that the water level in the glass tube had risen which was because a vacuum was created in the conical flask where CO2 was formed and absorbed by KOH.
KOH + CO2 —-> K2CO3 +H20
This shows that the germinating seeds respire out carbon dioxide.
