Q. Why the bryophytes are called as amphibians of Plant Kingdom?

Answer : Bryophytes acquire water for fertilization in their life span. They can fertilize only in presence of water. Like amphibians ( frog, salamander, etc... ) they also require water for their livelihood. Therefore they sre called Amphibians of Plant Kingdoms.

Extra Knowledge :

1. Bryophytes are 1st terristial plants and they lack vascular system.

2. They grow well in damp and shady places.

3. Their body is divided into stem, leaves and rhezoids ( root like structure ) though all if them aren't real.

4. Some of them have flat thallus like liverworts and hornworts.

4. They are classified into :

Mosses (Funaria), Liverwort(Merchantia) and Hornwort(Notothallus).
