1). King Dasaratha had been accompanied by Kaikeyi into battle in the Dandaka forest against Shumbar, the king of Vijayanta and the brother-in-law of a demon, Ravana. ... Thus because she saved the life of king dashrath , he happily gave her two boons and promised to fulfill them.

2). Kaikeyi told Dasharatha that he must fulfil her wish. Kaikeyi said that according to the two boons granted by Dasharatha, Rama should go to the forest for 14 years and Bharata must become the king.

3). Ram went to the forest for many reasons. The first and foremost was to obey the promise that his father, Dasharath had made to Kaikey, his mother or step mother. Another reason was because he had to kill ravan, which needed a series of events to happen, and his vaanvas and sita's kidnapping was one of them.
