illustrate the situations with display lack of internal democracy within a political party

Explanation:

A political party is a group of individuals who come together and organise themselves to contest elections, hold power and form the government. They agree on some policies and programmes for the society with a view to promoting the collective good. Political parties are crucial for the working of democracy. The presence of different political parties ensures the efficient functioning of the democratic system.

There are many major challenges that are faced by the political parties while working within the democratic framework. One of the major challenge faced by the parties is the lack of internal democracy and discipline within the party. Most of the parties today follow a hierarchal system in which there is always a tendency in all the political parties to concentrate all the powers of the party in one or few leaders at the top. This can be seen in all the counties. Thus, the leaders are not aware of any details of the decisions made by the superiors. This can cause unrest and conflicts within the party.

Generally, political parties do not keep membership registers, organise general body meetings or conduct internal elections regularly. Thus, the ordinary members in the grass root level do not have the networks or the connections to influence the decisions of the top leaders. Thus, the leaders assume greater power in decision making and those who disagree with the leaders find it difficult to continue in the party.

The unilateral decisions of the topmost officials in the party can result in a hereditary succession in which the well-wishers of the people who currently enjoy power become the next leaders. Thus it would be very difficult for an ordinary worker be an important leader or show their potential. The lack of the proper conduct of democratic elections and other discussions will not give the other members an equal opportunity to rise up to their potential.

Thus the lack of democracy within any political party can be evident through the following instances. It is highly important for all the political parties to maintain a democratic system and nature in their workings to ensure better functioning of the democratic system.
