Dear Diary ,
We all have heard that prejudice affects people a lot and it was only yesterday that I realised when it affects us personally how agonising it is. This incident happened in my school, as such this was happening with other students of my school. I am talking about favouritism. It so happened that there was this music competition and I had given my name. I am trained singer and I have been learning music since I was 4 years. I had participated and even sang well. In Fact I gave my best.
The audience liked it and I was thrilled, and I was hoping to win a prize though I was not particular that it should be the first. But sadly, I didn't even win consolation prize! Only because the students who were declared winners were the favourite of the judges, despite them not doing well they won. I felt really sad and realised that efforts does not matter when teachers who are supposed to be above God (Maatha (mother), Pita (father), Guru, Deivam (God)) display such prejudiced behaviour.
How favouritism by teachers which is unfair and contributes to discriminations can impact a student’s failure or success, I learnt from this bitter experience. Such favouritism can have a negative impact not only on the teacher's reputation but also on students who are not favoured and they can develop negative attitudes towards the teacher and the school. But who cares? the world is like this, and I suppose will continue like this.
