Imagine that going to the future was possible. Write a story about the time you and your friend go to the future in a time machine.

Explanation:

While traveling to the future would be fascinating, the problems with trying to change it in such a manner are substantial.

The more distant the future you go to, the harder it will be for you to understand it. You could easily spend years trying to figure out how the world has changed and why. Without this understanding, the information you gather may be useless. It might be regardless of what you do.

How accurate is the history you’re reading about? Can you trust it to be? Even if you can, there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to change it once you return to the present.

What if the future can’t be changed? The future you visited may have occurred with your interference taken into account.

Let’s assume it can be changed though. Once you make the first change to how matters were supposed to have played out, you can’t possibly predict what you’ll change. Seemingly innocent deviations could butterfly into something massive.

There’s no guarantee you’ll be able to affect the change you desire. You might make the situation far worse.

Traveling to the past holds its own unique issues. Altering it would almost certainly not be as simple as you’d imagine. However, you have a much better understanding of what needs to be changed and how to do so.

The truth is we don’t know how time travel works. Were we only endangering ourselves with our meddling, that would be one thing, This lack of understanding could very well put not just ourselves and the rest of the world at risk, but reality itself.

Putting aside these considerations, the main reason I would rather travel backward through time is to gain more of the most valuable currency—time itself. By going to the future, you could be spending quite a long time gathering the information you came for. The time spent doing this may end up being a complete waste.

Regardless of whether or not you succeed in your endeavors to alter the past by traveling there, you have at the very least gained more time. That by itself makes your trip worth it.
