A Narrow Escape
Who had thought that we would have to face the nuclear war consequences? When the warning siren rang, we were studying at the school. Rescue choppers landed within the school premises, and the students were rushed to a secret airbase. From there the students were boarded on a plane that flew to an unknown destination. As the plane was flying over the sea, a missile struck the plane; the adept pilot managed to crash-land on Topo Island in the Pacific Ocean. However, the students got scattered on the island owing to the breaking of the plane into two parts, which crash-landed on two different parts of the island.
The island was completely unnamed and had coral reefs, beaches, caves and fruit trees. The caves were in the North and East side of the island. Since the fresh water supply was available in the East, so we decided to make our temporary lodging in these caves. There were plenty of fruit trees near the caves as well. Towards the South of the caves, there were high mountains also from where we could look out for a rescue boat; or put up SOS.
Our first priority was to regroup all the children scattered in different parts of the island. As we had crash-landed near the swamps, many children had difficulty coming out of it. Ralph found a shell, and blew into it; he decided to use it to attract the other group’s attention. Thus blowing into the conch, we began exploring the island as well looking for the survivors from the other part of the plane. We drank water from the springs; plucked coconuts and ate them.
Meanwhile, the other group had heard the sound of the conch. They rushed towards its direction and soon were reunited. After exploring the island, we decided to put up in the caves in the East. All the boys and girls cooperated with one another as long as we stayed there. Jack and Piggy were given the duty to look out for a ship or boat. They also set up SOS by burning fire and producing smoke out of it.
One day Jack coming panting to the cave and shouted: “Come out all of you! A ship is coming to help us. The smoke has caught their attention. Piggy is up on the mountain waving at them. Let’s go up the mountain; from there we will climb down to the shore.”
Excited all of us ran and scampered up the mountain. A huge ship was coming towards the island to save us; to take us back to our country!
