On 30th April, there was the launch of the '' Literacy'' campaign in a slum area. I attended it and was amazed by the progress our government is making in regards with the literacy. Education is the fundamental right for every citizen in India. But their parents due to financially too weak cannot send their children to school. And make them stay at home and help their family.
The Government has launched several programs to provide free education to the children in slum area.

Our school student volunteers took part in the literacy campaign organized by HR Ministry along with local NGO, Vidya. The campaign was organized in the slums adjacent to the city. Students from our school along with volunteers from the other schools taught the children and adults basics of English, Hindi, Math, and Sciences. The volunteers also appealed to the villagers to send their children, especially the girls to the schools. We as a team enrolled 250 girls in the village schools. It was a unique experience working outside the classroom in a real-life situations.
The District Education Officer also visited the literacy campaign sites and praised the volunteers. Such literacy campaigns are extremely important for our country to achieve the goal of 100% literacy. India is a fast developing country with the ambition of becoming a fully developed country as soon as possible. This ambition can only be fulfilled in the condition of 100 % literacy. Such literacy campaigns will definitely will play a vital role in making a vibrant and enlightened India.
