Aurangzeb was a very ambitious, ruthless and intolerant ruler. He was the last of the Greater Mughals. The Mughal empire started declining after his death. Some of his policies contributed to the decline of the Mughal empire.

1) Aurangzeb was intolerant towards the Sikhs and Marathas. He fought many wars against them to suppress them. The constant wars weakened his empire.

2) The wars fought against the Sikhs and the Marathas and others caused in the depletion of the royal treasury thus weakening the empire further.
