The world's ecosystem has been heavily effected by the consumption choices of the world's population.
E.g. Cotton is a major crop grown in South Pakistan simply because of demand for cotton fabrics. In India, coconut is farmed for demand and Madagascar has become the biggest exporter of cocoa for chocolate.
In Srilanka and Kenya, same can said about tea plantations.

While these might seem like small scale farming, it should be remembered that these crops were grown by humans, with a systematic effort to eradicate local fauna and flora to make this work.

In the end, these can change. E.g. if demand for Kenyan tea reduces, these plantations may fail and something new grown over these.

Apart from that, the demand for milk, chicken and eggs has lead to factory farming on an unprecedented scale which can destroy local Eco-systems

Linking Local Consumption to Global Environmental Impacts. ... As such, local consumption can have negative impacts on both the local and global environment, contributing to climate change, water scarcity, deforestation, and other land conversions, all of which impact important ecosystem services.
