Identity is an essential aspect in the development of adolescents and its construction ends with the configuration of a solid personality and stable over time, which aspires to a good connection between the ideal of life for the individual and the society in which they live . Adolescents are in a process that will allow them to access a solid personal identity, a sense of security about who they are and what they want to be and a sense of intimacy. It is also part of this process of adolescent construction, the development of sexuality. According to their development, each adolescent will generate adaptive or maladaptive strategies in the management of social networks that will favor or hinder the construction of their identity. Among the first are self-control, prioritization of healthy activities and the exploration of various offline alternatives. The latter include avoidance of parental control, normalization and legitimation of abusive use.
Online communication and psychosocial development
Digital media generate multiple new contexts to express and explore aspects of identity 10. Individuals act in different spaces, creating diverse identities that are changing at a very fast speed and that can generate enriching or destructive interpersonal and intrapersonal experiences, according to how they are used The online communication (time of use, type of virtual social group chosen, among others).
In adolescence the peer group becomes very relevant in the construction of identity and becomes a referent to go modulating certain personal aspects, depending on the feedback received. Virtual feedback can be detrimental to some adolescents, since they can be expressed from anonymity, with an important affective distancing, with a low level of empathy, with a use of "spoken thinking" and with great difficulty to evaluate what their Messages are generating in the other. All this has negative consequences in the construction of the identity of young people, especially when the dissemination of negative content or disqualification propagates very fast, reaching unsuspected levels.
Another element to consider is the difficulty that some adolescents have in differentiating the public from the private. They are unable to access a consciousness that allows them to avoid exposing themselves to or being exposed to situations that, in the immediate future, can generate high levels of stress and significant damage to their vision, with serious risks to their mental health.
However, it is also possible to transmit clear and secure messages through the web, producing with it opportunities that are enriching for one's own development, and online communication can become an important reference in some topics.
It is necessary to communicate in a virtual way, that adolescents can reread what they want to transmit and be careful in moments of high emotional intensity, which is linked to their capacity for reflection, control of impulses and postponement of the immediate satisfaction of a need. That is why it is essential the guidance and education that significant adults can do, both in the generation of computer filters, and in the development of self-control and self-direction in the network.
