* plays a vital role in generating employment- at least two third of the working population on their living through agricultural works.

* makes provisions for food for the ever increasing population.

* contribution to capital formation- agriculture is the largest industry in India so it can mask play an important role in pushing up the rate of capital formation.

* supply raw materials to agro based industries- agriculture supplies raw materials to various agro based industries like sugar, jute, cotton textiles etc. and also to food processing industries. Development of these Industries is entirely dependent on agriculture.

* influence on internal and external trade and Commerce- internal trading food grains and other Agricultural Products help in the expansion of service sector.
