importance of catholic sacraments in individual lives
Answers
1) Confirmation. This sacrament strengthens us in faith and brings us closer to God. It’s the third and final sacrament of initiation.
2) Anointing of the Sick. Once referred to as Extreme Unction or Last Rites, this sacrament used to be given only to those who were dying. Today, it is given to all those who are ill, both physically and mentally. This and Reconciliation are known as the Sacraments of Healing. This sacrament is meant to offer physical, mental, or emotional healing through Christ. Very often, especially if the person receiving this sacrament is dying, it will be combined with Reconciliation and Eucharist.
3) Marriage. This sacrament binds two people, a man and a woman, as one. We Catholics don’t believe in divorce, but annulments are possible if there was not a valid marriage to begin with. In order to be a valid marriage, both partners must be of age, giving free consent, and be free to wed (i.e., not already married.) There must be no deceit, and they must both be open to the possibility of children.
4) Holy Orders. This sacrament is given to priests and deacons. It is part of the laying on of hands and the passing on of the authority of the Apostles.
