Electricity is important for people living everywhere!
In rural areas the main source of income in agriculture and doing agriculture on a big scale means a lot of water has to be pumped in the villages, there need to be irrigation systems (many of which are automatically operated and thus require electricity). Also rural housing needs electricity for lighting, water, etc just like a normal house in a town or a city. They use it to pump and store water, irrigate the fields, monitoring crops, security to the area, etc. So the major part of the electricity goes towards helping them with their day-to-day activities. If you think about this, though most of these can be done manually, electricity gives a much easier and improved way to do these.
