Step-by-step explanation:

In addition to producing larger quantities of food, the Green Revolution was also beneficial because it made it possible to grow more crops on roughly the same amount of land with a similar amount of effort. This reduced production costs and also resulted in cheaper prices for food in the market.

First Green Revolution (1960s-70s) had transformed India from a food deficit to a food surplus country. Gangetic plains reaped rich dividends of this movement, and it transformed itself into a large producer of wheat, rice, sugarcane etc.

Green Revolution is important for the Indian economy in the following ways:

Food Security: Green Revolution enabled India to become self-sufficient in the production of wheat, rice etc. The need of PL-480 aid from the USA stopped within a few years of the green revolution.

Farm Income: Green Revolution increased farm income especially in the northern hinterland and Krishna-Godavari plains (Andra Pradesh).

Falling Regional Inequality: Coastal states of India have the advantage of port location, historical Industrial centre location (Mumbai, Madras etc) etc, but Northern states (BIMARU) have been heavily dependant on agriculture for their prosperity.
