To find : the age of Chetan in 2020  

Solution:

Let say age of Chetan in 2020  =  C  years

Then present age of chetan in 2017 = C - 3 Years

present age of chetan mother = 5(C - 3)  = 5C - 15 Years

Age of chetan in 2014 = C - 6  years

Age of chetan mother in 2014 = 5C - 18  years

(C - 6)² = (5C - 18)/2

=> C²  -12C + 36  = (5C - 18)/2

=> 2C² - 24C + 72 = 5C - 18

=> 2C² - 29C + 90 = 0

=>  2C² - 20C - 9C + 90 = 0

=> 2C(C - 10) - 9(C - 10) = 0

=> (2C - 9) (C - 10) = 0

=> C = 9/2  or C = 10

C = 9/2 not possible as then  6 years before in 2014 Chetan was not born

C = 10

Hence Chetan age in 2020 will be 10 years
