Filtration is better separation method than sedimentation or decantation as during the process of sedimentation insoluble impurities begin to settle down and thus separate from a liquid such as water ,but during the process of decantation there is a chance of all impurities mixing with water(liquid) again thus hampering the whole process of sedimentation. Whereas the process of filtaration removes very tiny impurities also by passing through filter paper therefore depositing clear water as filtrate in any container and leaving back the impurities on filter paper as residue.
