Add ratio = 3 + 1 = 4

Quantity of milk = (40 / 4) x 3 = 10 x 3 = 30 litres

Quantity of water = (40 / 4) x 1 = 10 x 1 = 10 litres

To make ratio 2:1 = quantity of milk should be double of water.

Hence and quantity of water should be half of milk.

milk = 30 litres

hence water should be 15 litres.

more water required = 15 - 10 = 5 litres

Hence 5 more litres of water are required.
