it is perpendicular to BC

hence

triangle ADC forms a right angle triangle

so in this triangle by using

Pythagorean theorem

AC^2=AD^2+DC^2

AC^2=(2.5)^2+(3.5)^2

AC^2=6.25+13.25

AC^2=18.5

AC=sqrt 18.5

AC=4.03 cm

since the length of AC is 4.03 cm
